CRISTIANO RONALDO OFF TO REAL MADRID

Cristiano Ronaldo, it seems has finally got his dream move to the Bernabeu to play for Real Madrid. A lot of fans of English football are celebrating the move as they believe Manchester United would be severely weakened by the absence of the Portuguese superstar and his contribution to the team in terms of goals and assists.

I do not share that view. With his transfer kitty strengthened by part of the £80m reportedly being paid by Ronaldo, surely a football master such as Sir Alex Ferguson would be able to employ the services of two or three top class additions to his squad to fill the void. Furthermore, he only needs to move Wayne Rooney from the wings into a central position, a role he delights in, if his rich vein of scoring form for England is anything to go by to recover some of the goalscoring abilities that would undoubtedly be lost with Ronaldo's departure.

Make no mistake, Ronaldo's departure may be beneficial to all parties. The current World player of the year gets his dream move to Madrid. The Spanish giants acquire the services of a player who more likely than not will contribute significantly to their success on and off the pitch. Manchester United make a whopping profit on a player who they developed from a prodigious talent to a world class icon and use the funds to further strengthen their team. Everybody is laughing. Come a few years down the line, the dream may turn sour for Ronaldo, there are no guarantees that Madrid would enjoy the success they crave for and while United may not have used the money wisely to bolster their ranks, they would have the certainty of having made the huge profit on his sale. They may have the last laugh after all.
