VALENTINE'S DAY APPROACHES

Just a week to go and the most pointless day will be upon us. Some day it is, this Valentine's Day. It is the so called lovers' holiday where couples in love are expected to swap sweets, chocolate, flowers and other gifts. 'In love' is the operative word here.

It is safe to assume that there's a lot of uneasiness on the part of the half of a couple who is not in love with his/her partner or is in love with someone else. Valentine's Day will in this case more often than not be spent, not with the person he/she loves but with the one either society or the conscience decrees be loved.

I see Valentine's Day as a day when businesses and corporations in the gift, sweet, chocolate of flower industries lick their lips at the free money going their way. Money spent out of love but also out of duty.

I see the love between two people as natural and spiritual and something that should be celebrated off the cuff and not on an appointed day. Let the appointed day be for hypocrites or those looking for love.
